Some definitions according to some experts:

   
1. The combination of computer and video (Rosch, 1996)
   
2. The combination of three elements: sounds, images, and text (McComick, 1996)
   
3. The combination of at least two media input or output. Media may include audio (voice, music), animation, video, text, graphics and images (Turban et al, 2002)
   
4. Tools that can create a dynamic and interactive presentation that combines text, graphics, animation, audio and video (Robin and Linda, 2001)
   
5. Multimedia in the context of computer according to Hofstetter 2001 are: the use of computers to create and combine text, graphics, audio, video, using a tool that allows users to interact, create, and communicate '


Why Multimedia?

Multimedia can be used in:

   
1. Field of effective advertising and interactive
   
2. Education sector in the delivery of interactive teaching materials and to facilitate learning because dididukung by various aspects: sound, video, animation, text, and graphics
   
3. The field of network and internet which helps in making the website attractive, informative, and interactive

According to research by Computer Technology Research (CTR):

   
1. People were able to recall 20% of that seen
   
2. People were able to recall 30% of the audible
   
3. People are able to remember 50% of what is heard and seen
   
4. People were able to recall 70% of the hear, see, and do. (De Porter)

Multimedia able to:

   
1. Changing changing workplace. With the teleworking, workers should not be able to do his work from the office. Examples of software that supports teleworking / telecommuting: Netmeeting!
   
2. Changing the way of shopping. Homeshopping / teleshopping can be done using the internet, then stuff comes into its own.
   
3. Changing the way businesses. Nokia makes mobile phone business, many companies are using online trading systems, banks use the online-banking.
   
4. Change the way to obtain the information. People started using the internet and a variety of software to search for information. For example: read the newspaper online, detik.com, using medical software, learn guitar software and much more.
   
5. Changing the way of learning. School started using the computer multimedia, online learning, using the e-book.
   
6. Internet Multimedia also began to compete with television and radio


Category Multimedia

Multimedia can be defined into two categories: multimedia content production and multimedia communication with the following definition:

1. Multimedia content production

Multimedia is the use and processing of multiple media (text, audio, graphics, animation, video, and interactivity) to convey different information or produce multimedia (music, video, movies, games, entertainment, etc.) Or use a number of different technologies possible to combine media (text, audio, graphics, animation, video, and interactivity) in new ways for communication purposes.
